Yes! An urban wedding, a full on, full blown break from my normal stomping ground in the Lake District. like when people move jobs, it felt just like that, like I was rather far outside the box that I usually think in. I have shot very few weddings in an urban setting, but it is worth noting that I started out shooting weddings in Carlisle’s parks, Tithe Barn and local hotels like the Crown and Mitre. It fits like a glove for me, or like riding a bike… You never forgot how to do it, even if it had been a while.
Michelle and Jamie are an awesome couple with an equally awesome family, who were so generous with their time on the wedding day and also up for just about anything. As a result, they got the thick end of 300 images from the day, shot by me and my glamorous assistant Ed. Ed had just started practicing as a professional photographer in Carlisle, trained by Dave Draffan, Adrian Mcgonigle and myself. Friends have been so generous in taking him under their wing, to give him some great and valuable experience. I am eternally grateful. I am sure that Ed is too.
Anyway, Michelle was getting ready at the totally amazing Halston Aparthotel in Carlisle. It is incredible that a hotel of the Halstons’ calibre has been built in Carlisle. The views are incredible from the roof (see below) and also the suites upstairs. We had a chance to photograph Michelle getting ready, taking time out to photograph the function suite that had been set up with some amazing flowers from Vandella.
St Cuthberts Church is like a little oasis of green in the middle of the City, and a great setting for a wedding. We were confined to the balcony and the rear of the church, but with no shoes on (SAS style), managed to get near the front during the vows. It was a great ceremony, followed by some group images, a little sneaky cathedral shot and some funky stuff around the House of Fraser building finished off the town center images.
I am madly chuffed with this portfolio and Getting Jamie and Michelle onto the roof of the Halston was a real treat. A fab portfolio for an awesome couple.
Just to note, Michelle’s fab dress was supplied by Carol Roberts bridal shop in Carlisle.
